To review program analysis for the selected course in more detail, click on the Program Analysis link.
The Analyzed Items section allows the institution to see the total number of students that have the selected course as a requirement and are eligible to complete the course in the analysis term. Also, this box displays the number of students who have this course as an absolute or 100% requirement. Program analysis understands that every student who is eligible to take a course may not actually register for the course, so the analysis uses probability calculations to determine the projected need from program analysis. The program analysis projected need reflects this number. As on the previous screens, the seats offered for the current term and the overall projected demand is listed for comparison.
Key Concepts:
Program Analysis determines a statistical probability or likelihood that a student will register for the selected course in the analysis term. In short, this probability is derived by applying an estimated student credit load to the number of courses that are helpful for the student to complete in the analysis term (also ensuring that the student is eligible to complete the course). If a student has few choices available to him/her, the probability will be higher for an individual course.
The requirement rating indicates the likelihood that a course will be taken at some point in an academic career. A course with a 100% requirement rating is an absolute requirement and must be taken in order to complete degree requirements. The probability calculation prioritizes courses with the highest requirement rating because students have fewer options to fulfill the requirement.
The Students by Probability range tab provides detailed information on the projected need, students analyzed, and students with 100% requirement rating within the selected probability range.
Students by Probability Column Descriptions:
•Probability Range – groupings of probability results to assist in analyzing student demand
•Projected Need – number of seats needed per probability range to meet student demand
•Students – number of students in this probability range that have the selected course as a requirement and are eligible to complete the course in the analysis term. Click on the hyperlink in the students column to access a students modal that offers more detail on the students in that probability band.
•100% Requirement – number of students in this probability range that have the selected course as an absolute requirement
The sections modal provides key information on the students included in the probability band. Information includes the student ID, name, program, completed credits, calculated probability, and requirement rating.
